| This stationary bike workout, first introduced by West Coast endurance
cyclist Johnny Goldberg in the late 1980's, is now one of our most popular
features. A typical class consists of a specially trained instructor who
physically and verbally guides cyclists on stationary bikes through a
tough 45-minute routine. |
| During the workout the instructor leads speed sessions,
hill ascents and other peddling routines set to variable resistant levels.
Hydration - The most important fuel in a spinning class is water. Body
temperature changes are significant indoors. The body is not aided by
convection cooling (air flow over the body) so sweat stays on the surface of
the skin creating a "sauna-like" environment. The body's need for proper
hydration becomes paramount. |
 |
It is recommended that every participant in spinning class sip cool water
every five minutes, consuming a minimum of 16 ozs. of water by the end of each 40 minutes class.
